4.2 Objects in the Sky
Our ancestors marveled at the objects they saw in the sky: the Sun by day, the Moon by night.
They trembled at the arrival of strange new phenomena which they interpreted as bad omens.
They imagined Earth was the center of the Universe, and believed objects in the sky influenced everything.
Today the heavens are full of objects that humans have placed there. These spacecraft and telescopes, circling Earth, or flying to distant planets, are helping us explore and understand our own solar system... and the universe beyond.
In this video... our Sun as a star, new views of the planets, moons, asteroids and comets of our solar system, and how Earth's great observatories have allowed us to look to the very edge of space and time, and see objects in the sky more exotic than anything our ancestors ever imagined!
