This is a shot of the forest on the slopes of Rincon de la Vieja volcano.
You can see the summit in the distance (far right) and to the left is a deep
valley in which is the Blue Hole. The forest seen across
the photo is a remnant of volcanic activity occuring in the past. The
forest is montane moist forest with large kapok and strangler fig trees.
The Blue Hole itself is turquise with a 150 foot waterfall plunging off the
edge into the pool. The kids had lots of fun standing under the falls and
swimming in the cool water. When the water got too cold, you could swim
over to the side where a warm water stream enters the pool.
