Gates Intermediate in Scituate, MA started the PET activity also. My 8th
graders are doing a survey on what they would need to investigate a site. I
told them not to talk amongst themselves but to discuss it with their
families. They have to bring in a list of ten items they would include in a
toolkit to meausre and observe an unknown area. I showed them a shoebox to
use as a guide. Do we have a definite size restriction yet? Tomorrow we're
going to list all of the items and enter them into a database. We decided
that the items that showed up most often should be our first choices BUT we
should also be willing to take along the truly unique! The other team is
doing exactly the same thing. Once we arrive at a preliminary kit we'll
share data with each other and discuss the merits of each piece of
equipment.
