QUESTION: Could you put a version of the 360 degree pan on the web that has the rocks labeled by name? I've been trying to figure out which is Scooby Doo, but I'm not sure. It would be nice if such an image also labeled cardinal points, and the distant hills that are referred to in the Viking orbiter photos locating the landing site. ANSWER from John Moreau on July 23, 1997: At Arizona State University, the Space Photography Laboratory has created an indexed database of all press release Mars Pathfinder images for the WWW. This means that you can go into our searchable database and do a search on "Scooby Doo" or "Barnacle Bill" and get back specific released images of those rocks. The same thing applies to larger features such as the knobs or crater rim. Unfortunately, at this time our database is only available from 9:00am to 5:00pm Pacific time. When we transfer our files and programs to a more powerful server, it will become accessible 24 hours. This is the only subject indexable database for Mars Pathfinder images developed to date. The database for MPF images at JPL requires knowledge of the release date for the image in terms of Martian sols. The URL for our database is: http://europa.la.asu.edu/html/pathfindersearch.html
