QUESTION: What are the newest activities happening with the HST? ANSWER from Julio Marius on 2 May, 1996: In the area of operations, flight operations continues getting ready for the servicing mission on February 13, 1997. In the last month, operations personnel had two simulations that rehearsed the servicing mission activities for two extravehicular activities (EVA), 3 &4. The simulations are performed to allow the different participating engineers to operate as a team and respond properly to any possible problems, which we call anomalies or contingencies. Operations strives to develop procedures and contingency plans to handle any possible anomaly that may occur during the actual mission in '97. The success of the mission depends quiet a lot in how well operations personnel are prepared and ready to execute all the servicing mission activities. The first servicing mission in December of '93 was so successful because operations personnel responded very well to the many activities that took place during the mission. This was primarily due to the intensive training and preparation during the first servicing mission simulations. HST operations personnel expect to have an equally successful mission through the ongoing simulations and tests that are being performed. In the area of sciences, HST continues performing outstanding sciences with excellent results. For the details of the science activities, the Science Institute in Baltimore will be able to provide the latest information with specific details.
